Duno Battles Courageously & Earns 8th Place Finish at Salem Salem, Ind. (April 28, 2013) – Milka Duno earned her ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards career-best finish by taking the checkered flag in 8th in the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA 200 presented by Crosley Radio at Salem Speedway. Duno started the scheduled 200-lap race 20th on the grid in the No. 35 Cantv/Milka Way Chevrolet and advanced into top-fifteen territory by lap 65. On lap 146 she broke into the top-ten – reaching 8th by the end of the extended green-white-checkered 203-lap event. The very spirited race on the 0.5-mile short track was not without its mishaps however- which resulted in 8 caution periods for a total of 53 laps. Duno managed her way through some slight side-by-side contact with one competitor and under a caution was unintentionally hit very hard from behind – which caused her to hit the car in front of her. Due to the contact the rear of her No.35 Cantv/Milka Way Chevrolet suffered substantial damage and some to the front of the car as well. The damage was quickly dealt with by the VMS crew and Duno was back out on track in no time. Toward the end of the race Duno neatly recovered from what could have been a spin due to oil on the track. But throughout the action-filled race Duno fought hard and courageously battled for each and every gain in track position and to maneuver successfully through traffic and around the many on-track incidents occurring in front of her. Duno and her VMS team were determined to deliver a strong result – and that they did. “It was a great race for me,” said Duno. “I was driving as hard as I could and I was determined to advance. You have to race as fast as you can on every single lap on a short track like Salem - it's like each lap of the race is like a qualifying lap. Venturini Motorsports was just awesome today - everybody - from every member of the crew to the spotter. They gave me a good car and then got me through this race with a very good finish.” "Very pleased with Milka's finish this weekend,” said Billy Venturini, Director of Competition for Venturini Motorsports. ”I applaud her determination and effort throughout the entire race. I'm really excited to see her already post a career-best finish in just her third start with Venturini Motorsports." With her 8th place finish at Salem Duno maintains her position as 8th in the ARCA Series Driver Point standings. Next up for Duno and her VMS squad will be the International Motorsports Hall of Fame 250 at Talladega Superspeedway on Friday, May 3. # # # About Milka Duno Duno is also working through her “Milka Way” program to inspire youth to “Aim for the Stars” and achieve academic excellence.
