PORSCHE INVITES MILKA DUNO TO RACE IN SPAIN

LOS ANGELES, CA – May 1, 2003 – Venezuelan racer Milka Duno has accepted a VIP invitation by Porsche AG to compete in the Porsche Michelin Supercup race as part of the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Spain this week, May 1-4, 2003. The race that Milka will compete in, at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya, will be the 2nd race of the series’ 11-race season.

The Porsche Michelin Supercup is the world’s fastest international one-make series and is in its eleventh year as support to the Formula 1 World Championship. Since 1993 the Supercup has run as support to the European Formula 1 rounds, with the first overseas race being added to the calendar in 1999. In September 2000 over 200,000 spectators witnessed the Supercup at its US premiere in Indianapolis. Eleven rounds make up the 2003 racing calendar – ten in Europe with the season final again at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, USA.

For each Supercup race Porsche invites journalists, motorsport personalities and other celebrities to take up the challenge and drive one of two VIP Carreras with starting numbers 1 and 2. Even international motorsport aces find it extremely difficult to beat the Supercup specialists in the unfamiliar 911. Likewise, automobile and motorbike world champions often find themselves regularly ending up in the unaccustomed mid-field. That the elite of motorsport still take up the gauntlet after more than a decade of Supercup racing speaks volumes for the sporting spirit of these swift guest drivers. Mika Häkkinen competed at Monaco and Budapest in 1993 - and won both races. F1 drivers such as Ralf Schumacher, Eddie Irvine and Mario Andretti have also tried their luck against a pack of seasoned Porsche regulars.

“I consider it a tremendous honor to have been invited to compete,” said Milka. “It is also very special to me that the race is in Spain, as I attended graduate school in Madrid. I have raced several times at Catalunya in the World Series by Nissan and I look forward to hitting the track in the 911.”

Milka has recently been focusing her efforts on North America’s premier sports car series – the American Le Mans Series – where Milka became the first woman in history to pilot the world’s fastest sportscars, and throughout Europe and South America in the World Series by Nissan – where she also became the first woman in history to drive the fastest open-wheel cars in Europe, other than Formula 1. The World Series by Nissan is the last step on the ladder toward Formula 1. Milka has also competed the last two years in the most famous sports car race in the world, the 24 Hours of Le Mans in Le Mans, France, where she was the only female driver (amongst 149 male drivers).
