Duo Hope to Continue Success at Phoenix 250

April 2, 2004 - Recent Grand Prix of Miami overall winners Milka Duno and Andy Wallace head west for the third race of their 2004 Rolex Sports Car Series season - the Phoenix 250 - at Phoenix International Raceway, April 8-10, 2004. The win at Miami put Andy at the top in the Daytona Prototype Driver's Point Championship and made Milka the first woman in history to score an overall win in a major North American sports car race.

Milka and Andy will rejoin their Howard-Boss Motorsport teammates in Phoenix after a longer-than-normal break of five weeks between the Miami and Phoenix races. During that time the team has had a couple of productive testing days at Virginia International Raceway and has worked hard to prepare the #2 CITGO-branded Pontiac Crawford Daytona Prototype for the desert race.

During the break Milka competed in the legendary 12 Hours of Sebring in a CITGO-branded #15 Lola B2K/10/Judd LM1 Prototype with Formula One driver Justin Wilson and sports car veteran Phil Andrews. While running in the top six overall for around 10 hours of the 12-hour race the car was retired, with under two hours remaining, due to a gearbox failure.

"I'm really looking forward to getting back into the car with Andy," said Milka. "The team has been working very hard getting ready for this race and I know we're all hoping for a good result. I'm very glad that I had the chance to race with CITGO at Sebring. It is a very demanding circuit and at the end of a very long day there I felt that Justin, Phil and I handled it very well. This will be my first time at Phoenix and I've always wanted to race there. It is a very challenging track."

"Phoenix is not an easy track to drive or to set-up the car for," Andy explains. "There are basically two separate areas of race track to master. First, the infield is quite slow and slippery. Second, the last turn which includes turns three and four of the oval are very quick. My favorite part is the oval (last turn) - a very fast corner, and not easy, especially in traffic. It will be the scene of some close racing I'm sure." The race at Phoenix, held under the lights and scheduled to begin at 6:00p.m. MT will be a 250-mile event. The track, located in Arizona's "Valley of the Sun" is 1.51 miles in length and features 11 turns in its road racing configuration. The race will be broadcast LIVE on the SPEED Channel starting at 9:00p.m. ET on Saturday, April 10.
