RACER milka duno TO REPRESENT "LITERATURE IN MOTION" AT 3rd ANNUAL LATINOS READ EVENT
Duno to promote literacy in the Latino community.
November 16, 2005 - CITGO Racing's winning female driver Milka Duno, selected as a vibrant example of what Latinos can achieve, has been invited to promote literacy in the Latin community at the 3rd annual LATINOS READ Literature in Motion at the Majestic Theater in Dallas this Thursday night, November 17, 2005. The event will benefit the Mi Escuelita Preschools and the WB33 Kids Fund - a fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation.
LATINOS READ aims its sights each year toward parents and children by inviting respected Latino celebrities to participate in a fun and entertaining story time event for the entire family. Milka will help to inspire the children and their parents to embark on a journey of self-discovery while also instilling in them the confidence that through education and self-determination one can create a life filled with accomplishments and success.
Combining beauty, brains and lightning-fast reflexes, Milka is arguably one of the most charismatic and talented drivers of her generation. Aside from being a winning race car driver, Milka is a qualified Naval Engineer and holds four master's degrees in Organizational Development, Naval Architecture, Maritime Business and Marine Biology - earning the last three simultaneously. She just completed her second consecutive season with CITGO Racing in the 2005 Rolex Sports Car Series where she finished 8th in the Driver Point Standings and scored her third Rolex Series win at the Circuit du Mont-Tremblant in Canada. In her first season with CITGO Racing Milka became the first woman in history to win a major sports car race in North America when she won the 2004 Grand Prix of Miami. She earned her second Rolex Series career win at the same track seven months later.
Each invited celebrity will perform on stage by reading a selection from a book of their choice to the guests in the audience. Milka will read a popular children's book about a race car - The Wheels On The Race Car by Alexander Zane. Several children from Mi Escuelita will join her on stage to interact by providing the many race car sounds featured in the book.
Popular children's author and singer Jose-Luis Orozco will perform as well, along with Ballet Folklorico's Anita Martinez, Univision Radio talk show host Rolando Becerra and Ana Cristina Reymundo, author, Celia: My Life.
