Milka Duno heads for the top.

Sportscar driver Milka Duno will be the first woman in history to drive an ALMS LMP 900 prototype car.

A native of Caracas, Venezuela, second place in the 2001 ALMS LMP 675 drivers' championship, she will make her LMP 900 debut in the 12 hours of Sebring in March. It will be the 50th anniversary of the oldest endurance test run in the United States, in a calendar which includes a race in the streets of Downtown Miami in April and another in Washington, D.C. in July.

"I am impatient to get in the car" said Milka from Caracas. "Driving one of these more than 600HP monsters will be a new challenge. Fortunately, as in everything I have done so far, I have the full support of all the members of the team and I am physically training very hard because the level of exigency will be higher than ever. My coach, Vic Elford has no doubts that I will be able to adapt to the car and it's power very quickly, even though the front engine will make it very different from the car I drove last year. The power to weight ratio is even greater than that of the Reynard/Judd, but the Panoz/Mugen LMP 900 prototype represents the ultimate level in sporstcars, so I am happy to have achieved one of my goals in motorsporsts".

The South American driver is back in her home country now, but her return to Europe is imminent to recommence training with the Open Telefonica Nissan single seater and the season that starts again in April. Milka will again be driving a car for the Italian Vergani Racing Team in the 2 litre category, a division in which she aims to be a serious protagonist.
