MILKA DUNO SCORES HIGHEST FINISH IN 45 YEAR HISTORY OF
THE 24 HOURS OF
DAYTONA
Duno Earns Highest Finish Ever for Female Driver in Legendary Daytona
Race
January 28, 2007, Los Angeles, CA...After a virtually flawless 24-hour
performance Milka Duno and the CITGO Racing team delivered an outstanding
2nd place overall finish at this weekend's Rolex 24 At Daytona. Series
officials have confirmed that Duno's podium appearance today marks
the
highest finish for a female driver in the 45 year history of the 24
Hours of
Daytona at Daytona International Speedway.
Duno and co-drivers Patrick Carpentier, Darren Manning and Ryan Dalziel,
in
their #11 CITGO Pontiac Riley, started the internationally renowned
endurance race 5th on the grid of seventy world class competitors and
took
the checkered flag 24 hours later in 2nd place overall.
In arguably one of the most talented fields of drivers in the event's
history - a field of all-star drivers with combined accomplishments
that
include five NASCAR Nextel Cup championships, six Indy 500 wins, five
IndyCar championships and one Champ Car World Series championship -
with
names such as Juan Pablo Montoya, Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Jimmie
Johnson,
Dan Wheldon, Sam Hornish, Jr. and Helio Castroneves - the CITGO Racing
team
of Duno, Carpentier, Manning and Dalziel finished ahead of all but
one.
With today's 2nd place finish Duno advanced her previous "personal
best" of
an 8th place overall finish at the 2006 Rolex 24 At Daytona - which
was at
the time the highest overall finish by a female driver in the Rolex
era.
Milka Duno
"Our 2nd place finish today is certainly one of the highlights of my
racing
career so far. It was a complete team effort from start to finish and
I
can't thank my teammates Patrick, Darren and Ryan enough - or the incredible
performance of the entire CITGO Racing team and SAMAX Motorsports.
While I
am very proud and honored to be the highest finishing female driver
ever in
such a legendary race - I am most proud and thankful of my co-drivers
and
crew for their spectacular performance and our great effort together
as a
team!"
