ENGINE PROBLEM FORCES DUNO OUT EARLY IN DAYTONA

Daytona Beach, Fla. (January 27, 2008) – IndyCar Series driver, Milka Duno, along with Team SAMAX in #11 CANTV-sponsored Daytona Prototype GTS, finished early in the 2008 Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona due to an engine problem at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday, January 26.  This would have been Milka’s sixth appearance at the popular event for motorsports fans world-wide.

Throughout the weekend, Duno and the other three seasoned drivers on her team completed practice and qualified for the 24 Hours of Daytona.  Duno was the only female driver in more than 250 drivers in the Rolex Series.

Milka Duno’s Comments:
“We are disappointed because we were ready to compete and anticipated a great race.  Our team made a good effort and qualified in the eighth position overall.  From the beginning and throughout the first four hours of the race, our car was losing power, and at the end, the engine broke and forced us to make the decision to discontinue the race.  These problems occur, and unfortunately it happened to us in Daytona.”

In her first race of the 2007 season, Milka was one of the drivers of the teams that scored a second place finish in the 24 Hours of Daytona – earning the highest finish ever by a female driver in the 45-year history of the race – and the highest finish ever by a female driver in a major race at the Daytona circuit.

CANTV, based in Caracas, Venezuela, is the principal phone company in Venezuela.  The company has been Milka’s sponsor for nine years, and they also support another Venezuelan sportsman and several sports activities in Venezuela.  As of May 22, 2007, CANTV is owned by the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.  For more information, please visit www.cantv.com.ve.
